Programming Change for KBYU Channel 11.3

We've recently been informed of a programming change affecting channel 11.3 in Utah. BYU Broadcasting will be providing “BYU TV International” on that channel instead of “Create TV” beginning May 1, 2013. There will not be an over-the-air method of watching Create TV at that time. We suggest you visit http://kbyutv.org/create/ for information about an alternative way to watch this programming. Meanwhile, BYU TV International is designed to provide BYU Television to a worldwide audience, featuring documentaries, sports, musical performances and religious programming with alternative language options including Spanish and Portuguese. (Use the “audio” set-up on your TV receiver to choose different languages.)

Long-time viewers will remember that, just a few years ago, KBYU-TV was able to provide four channels of standard-definition, Digital TV programming over the air. At that time, they offered both Create TV and BYU TV International using channels 11.3 and 11.4. However, technical limitations forced them to drop channel 11.4 when they switched to high-definition broadcasting on channels 11.1 and 11.2. (See the video posted here on March 13 for an explanation of how both standard-definition and high-definition programming is offered with Digital TV broadcasting.)

With every major change in broadcasting like this one, we realize that some viewers will be disappointed to lose the programming they've been watching while others will be pleased with the new material offered. We, who manage the local, Ogden Valley TV translator system, sympathize with those viewers who enjoy Create TV and will miss it on our translator system. However, this change will affect all over-the-air viewers in Utah. We will continue to offer what we receive from BYU Broadcasting and, as such, their change will be reflected in Ogden Valley too.
